I know it's been a while. Let's just say that I had to take a little jaunt off course in order to see how off course I had become. I'm sure many of you have done this. It's quite enlightening and highly recommended. Nonetheless, I'm ready to return. And for you loyal followers, it will be worth your wait.

Just to keep you all at bay until the debut, here's a little tidbit to put into practice in the meantime:
1. Get an eggtimer
2. Set it at 20 min.
3. Start a task (laundry, dishes, homework, making phone calls, you choose...)
4. Don't deviate from this task until the timer rings
5. Repeat

You may find that you get a lot more accomplished than you could have imagined. Good Luck getting organized, and I'd love to hear how things work out for you all:)

Sand On, Sand Off!

Well Hello Sunshine:)

I hope this little note from paradise finds you well. I know I've been on a bit of a vacation but I must say I miss you all and will catch up with your comments and blogs as soon as I can find a decent internet connection. I love hearing from all of you!! So I hope you can forgive me; you see, I've prepared this little BRB S.O.S. to make it up to you.

Like me, if you have been enjoying the "extended" version of the long weekend as an excuse to take a vacation on a sandy beach under the hot sun, then this tip is just for you.

Throughout the Summer (and yes, it's almost here), and especially this weekend in particular, we have planned and packed for the long haul. It's been days since we've seen the car (where'd we park again?). We have staked our claim on some prime real estate in front of the vast aquamarine sea, set at the perfect distance so that the tide will certainly Not soak our perfectly peaceful dream come true.

Many times we stay at the beach and continue the festivities to the local bar or bonfire gathering. Some of us are lucky enough to have a nearby beachhouse to go to. Many of us change with supreme finesse under our towels. Most of us cannot muster the energy to treck back to our vehicles so we do what we can near the showers and the public restrooms.

Either way, the step from wet, sandy swimsuit to dry, comfortable dress is never quite as easy as it should be, am I right?

Sand is so nice...until you have to get the grainy nuisance out of the, well um, more hidden areas of your body!!

Here's How To Get Sand Off in A Flash:

(works well getting it off of your children too!)

1. Grab the Talcum Powder

(Burt's Bees has an incredible powder and it smells subtle and fresh.

Baby Powder works but do You want to smell like a freshly changed diaper before that potentially romantic bonfire, hmmmm??)

2. Sprinkle It Liberally Where Needed

(Under the bikini bottom area, Under Armpits, On the back, neck, and sparingly behind the ears)

3. Towel It All Off

4. Now that the sand is off, you can use a wet washcloth and some lotion to get you back to Glowing Goddess/God;)

AND IN THE LOVELY EVENT THAT SOMEONE WALKS BY YOU AND KICKS SAND ON YOU,

Talcum Powder also Helps:

TO GET SAND OUT OF EYES - close eyes and sprinkle some on face then gently brush off sand with ease

TO GET SAND OUT OF HAIR - put a little in your hands and rub it gently into your scalp then use fingers to work it out of hair (this absorbs oil too)

TO GET IT OUT OF A BABY'S DIAPER - again, sprinkle on then gently towel off.

I love having powder on hand. It's gotten me out of so many binds. I can't tell you how many times it's saved me the trouble of getting all that crusty sand off of my body parts, hence no annoying dirt on perfectly prepared outfits. Enjoy your newfound comfort and easily slip into your next activity with confidence!

If you look at your nails at a certain angle while indoors,

the color even transforms and gives the illusion of Black

I really wish that I could use words that would do Dickweed justice.

Let's see, I can tell you that the first coat starts off sheer and you work up to this saturation.

I used 4 coats here. It keeps a glossy shine so a top coat is not required.

It glides on and dries quite nicely without bubbles.

A couple minutes after application, I touched my nail with lotion. No problem, the 4th coat was already dry!

Throughout the day I would hit my nails against something, but No Nicks to speak of.

Washed everything from clothes to brushes and the polish powered through the first day.

Pretty impressive.

Overall, I give it a tried and true blue-green thumbs up. To fairly review the formula's longevity, I'll share that I have been wearing it for 5 days and it's finally time for a redo, but I'm sure if I used all the fancy base and top coats from the salon, we'd still be in business for another week easily.

What can I say? There are few nail colors that really grab my attention like this one and even fewer that deliver the goods.

Do you ever find yourself working on a project for hours but spread out all over the floor? Maybe you sit at the computer all day working on research or reports? Don't you hate when you've been sitting on a leg wrong or laying your head in your hand for a little too long only to experience the oh-so-uncomfortable feelings of pins and needles shooting through your extremities?

First, enter the pregnant pause as you first get up; it is now when the initial tingle begins, but you know the pain is coming...

Finally, your hands, fingers, feet, and/or toes are filled with an internal, massive and unrelenting explosion of unnerving, prickly fire.

So I was up late the other night watching this new show with Bear Grylls called, "Worst Case Scenario."

(*Aside: I'm the first to agree that he's done some raunchy stunts on "Man v. Wild" for survival, but he did redeem himself in my eyes after sharing the following piece of advice.)

Basically, Bear shares a tip that you'll never forget because you'll probably use it a lot from now on...

As soon as you feel the lack of circulation pause before the rush of the storm,

SLOWLY and GENTLY Rock Your Head from side to side

(ear down towards shoulder)

to get the circulation going.

If done correctly, you may be able to avoid the whole pins and needles experience entirely.

Retail Therapy - Finding the Loophole in a Backordered Blue Dress

For weeks, I searched for this Urban Outfitters' Dress. If you were one of the employees who joined me in this search, many thanks for your tireless efforts. It was sold out (typical) in blue but "backordered" til June. Well, I know Stylistas around the globe can appreciate that I don't take no for an answer in these situations.

I'm having such a tough time lately. It seems so weird online lately with all the...drama. That is the main reason that I blog - to find Peace. What up with all the copying, smack-talking, and nay-saying? It could be that I've let myself get caught up in the politics that comes with moment to moment updates and status reports. The business of pleasing everyone is immense...impossible, and that is why I make a genuine effort to present myself in an honest light.

Perfectly imperfect.

So many critics, so little time. I'm hard on myself as it is.

Performance aside, isn't blogging personal, hence we cannot be held against any standard but our own?

I guess I'll just be me then...

I've been informed that this is what my smile really looks like.

REVIEW:

This dress oozes buttery, soft cotton that moves whenever and wherever you wish to go. It wears as if it's up for any type of activity including, but not exclusive to, running, jumping and spending long hours stuck in traffic on a hot day with friends and luvahs. Extremely comfortable. Lightweight yet durable. Luckily it doesn't easily wrinkle and keeps it's shape even if you want to lay around on the grass for an afternoon. The style easily transitions from a Day in the Park to Shopping and then Happy Hour at the Beach. The cut is flattering for my petite stature and I imagine it would be just as amazing with anyone that has legs for days...

This has got to be one of my Top 3 in a list of hundreds of UO favorites.

It's one of the more well-made garments I've seen from here.

No wonder it's gone daddy gone...

Thanks to the support of you all, I've found my ground on this bumpy, crooked road.

Polly Put A Kettle of Chamomile Tea On

Chamomile is GOOD for the Nervous System. It's an Anti-Inflammatory and an Anti-Spasmodic.

After Steeping some Tea for yourself to drink, place teabags to cool on saucer (wait a few minutes).

Put on your iPod and place cooled bags onto closed eyelids.

10-20min,

but in my experience Chamomile Tea is such a great pain reliever/muscle relaxer that I usually fall asleep almost immediately in this situation.

Cut A Raw Potato into Slices Then Soak in Water, leave in a Tupperware, AND Refrigerate. ADD Lemon to the Water to keep it from oxidizing quickly.

Mixed Prints and Dressing Down

Sitting under the warm sun, my ladies and I sat around snacking on small, savory snacks and sipping crisp, buttery beverages while enjoying shared time that girlfriends usually look forward to on lazy afternoons. As usual, the Garlic Basil Hummus Dip was the most popular, and I am the first to admit that I could have eaten it without much more than a spoon.

My girlfriend's backyard is a peaceful retreat filled with random sounds of birds chirping and lush, green grass as it blows in the breeze. It somehow beckons you closer from the sturdy, rot iron chairs. It is the kind of place that entices your bare feet onto the cool ground for unscheduled exploration.

It amazes me that it exists so quietly atop such a bustling city.

To My Dear Friends, Thank You:) You ground me and remind me to see what really matters.

Mixed Prints

Style is experimental so I tried to see how it would be to mix prints in the least intimidating way - Accessories. Why not? I'd mix all the colors of gold together as long as it felt right.

Here is one of the belts I previously mentioned my Mom gave me as a remnant to a dress donated to charity long ago.

The White BCBGirls Eyelet Empire Waisted Tank ties in the back and flows freely underneath what else? An impeccably well-sewn plaid shirt from none other than Elizabeth And James. I know it's almost impossible to see that all of the individual boxes are outlined in a single stitch of perfectly guided thread, but it's one of those details you only delightfully discover as you put it on. It's a light, cotton/silk blend that is soft and nothing short of superb on the skin. Three alabaster buttons make a special appearance on the back of the shirt to create a darting that flatters the waistline, esp. if you button up the front.

I actually put beer in my hair before washing it to see if it would pump up the volume. Think it worked?

Also, because I have stayed true in my exploration of vivid lip color, I am wearing a Lancome Le Lipstique Liner in Sundried Berry. Easy to wear and it didn't get all over the place (wine glasses, napkins, food). As an aside: According to Stylelist, we eat anywhere from 4-7lbs. of lipstick in a lifetime so liner is another option.

...then I tried it without the tie...

Tardy to the Dickweed Party

Aquarium Blues

After a few months waxing and waning between taupe and vampy burgundies, I have started to mix it up with this aqua blue color by Sally Hansen. You've probably seen it in posts recently. Well the color is great, but you'd better wear a topcoat or it will chip, bubble, and struggle to stay on. Even the brush annoys me. It's flat and fat. It leaves streaks. It dries before you finish your coat. It makes me sad. In fact it is so crappy that I refuse to even show you a picture of the product. I don't even want the sight of it on my blog.

I even passed up the Revlon Scented option because it had way too much yellow and seemed a bit greenish aqua instead of bluish. I know, I know, what's the diff? Remember how Crayola used to have Greenish-Blue and Bluish-Green and there wasn't really a difference? Well, the Revlon color had a reflective yellow green iridescence. This Sally Hansen had a shimmery aqua blue. Difference is Revlon's formula is consistently quality and doesn't always need a topcoat if you're in a bind. Apparently, Revlon had the exact color to this SH product last spring called "Blue Siren." Nothing to cry over.

Moving on.

Who Feels Like A DickWeed Now?

My point is that I was blogging along and then I found something. DICKWEED. Yup, got your attention too didn't it? And when I first hit the link, I was given the option to "Add it to My Bag." I thought about whether it could be worth the price tag. Then I looked and saw the words "Out-Of-Stock." Really? In the eternal words of Chris Farley, "STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!" It was like I was back in elementary school when Tommy M. threw a dodge ball at my head while simultaneously screaming, "THINK FAST!"

It's a damn shame too. This color from BleachBlack was Pure Creative Genius. Rumor has it the color is some sort of beautiful beetle teal and indoors it looks dark green. And I quote from the needsupply site:

"a striking hybrid of Japanese Beetle Green and Malachite Stones with a hint of Metallic Shine."

Apparently, it has been out since at least DECEMBER 2009. Why in the world of consumerism did I have to even stumble upon the existence of such a Godsend? What's the moral of the story here? "Live and Learn?" or "It wasn't meant to be."

Well, unless Kristin Reiter and Valerie Killeen get the urge to reproduce this for us =], I just may have to say it's, "S.O.L." and "Let it go." At least there's still a chance to get some "JIZZ." Thanks Rumi for pointing that out;)

Lips Gone Wild - Hog Tied and Hot Pink

These are the wise words that my Mom softly advises under her breath, but loud enough so I receive the advice - always delivered with good intentions. I Love You Mom:) This one's for you. My favorite thing to do is wear barely there nude colors on my lips, but things have been changing around here, so jumping out of the comfort zone is par for the course.

Sometimes going way outside of familiar territory brings me joyfully back to the place I long to be.

I'm still amazed that this combination of pink is not as shocking as I had expected...

In person it's pretty bright, but the color seems to photograph beautifully!

Might As Well Include the OOTD

What I wore to balance out the bright lip for Daytime was this fantabulous, dark, batwing tunic from Metropolitan. The open back drapes down with 2 simple strings that tie right at the shoulder blades. The lower mid-section gathers subtly across the hips and ties the ruching on the side; this seems to flatter the waistline and yet still cover enough of the badookadunk (dangit! One of you lovely bloggers got that term in my head and now I cannot stop using it today) to be tasteful. Interestingly enough, the dramatic top almost seems understated next to the sizzling lip.

Accessories

Because of the stripes, I did not see it necessary to over do it. A geometric, silver necklace and studded earrings seemed to polish off the look. I think my thick 1-in banded silver ring etched with tiny flowers would have been perfect here, but I still haven't found her:_( Keep praying she turns up for me, would you please?

Thought this necklace would be invaluable in its versatility

I rocked simple, black, round-toe wedges from Target (yay clearance!) in order to navigate the day more easily.

I am thrilled that these shoes do not give the feet a stuffed sausage appearance

as some round toe shoes do!

I'm so glad to have met you, and I am so thankful that even though it's been only a few months, you have taught me to embrace and not be ashamed of the strong woman I am. Lucky to know you.

And Amanda, I am also so humbled to receive your Beautiful Blogger Award, as seen here. I confess, I was coveting this award a while back when I started noticing it on other blogs. Thank you tons and tons for sharing it with me and bringing such positive vibes to my little piece of the blogosphere=) I receive it with nothing less than big love and appreciation for you my friend. It just made my day and I couldn't help but smile.

My new friend, Holly over at "Love Imagine Create" reminded me in a post today that family is to be cherished. So I want to acknowledge these women as important family members in an online community that is suddenly becoming more of my own small world than I could have ever imagined. Everyday each and everyone of us reads about each others thoughts, hopes, dreams, creations and priorities and we become closer by default. Pickled in Polyester - Removing Perspiration Odor from Clothes

ONE DOWNFALL WITH MANY VINTAGE ITEMS IS THAT POLYESTER WAS AT ONE TIME KING
And polyester "finds" from thrift stores sometimes...well, most times, stink "b.odorously" (sure it's a word!). The better the piece, the more likely it was worn at full-bore - singing and dancing the night away.
We can only assume that these pieces moved about during exciting times, but we do not desire for the garment to retain the malodorous remainder of those days, do we?

Fortunately, my Mom took really good care of hers so there is no problem with the ones I've received from her lovely and well-scented closet. And if you find a reputable vintage store online, they will send you pieces that were screened/cleaned and don't carry too much of a lingering odor (A special Thank You to Lulu's.com! Shipping was quick and the vintage top smelled fine - post coming soon).

However, I have spent several afternoons around the country at some of the best kept secret, secondhand spots with the most outstanding fashion. And these spectacular pieces more likely than not are worth the maintenance required to "De-mustify".
Ahhh...segue to BRB Post on Getting Rid of Polyester P.U.

During my research, I found great ideas from iVillage.com.
I loved some ideas better than others, BUT understanding a bit about chemistry, I strongly advise AGAINST ammonia ever being added to a clothes washer, sink, or tub (because if it ever mixed with chlorine bleach - that means hair dye bleach too - KABOOM!).

But I'll tell you a few of the following methods that have worked for many, myself included.
DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES TO DEODORIZE
*Note: Each number indicates a SEPARATE technique
Charcoal

Place Charcoal (non-lighter fluid soaked) into a small plastic tub and poke small holes in the lid.

Put container inside a larger plastic bag along with garment holding stench.

**I might even use a higher thread count cheese cloth or nylon in which to wrap the charcoal
instead of the small tub.**
I'm thinking that this might allow more exposure to the charcoal for filtration...

Seal bag and leave for a few days.

The charcoal should filter out the odor. Think water filtration system, but with air.

Be careful not to let charcoal dust get onto clothing.

20 Mule Team Borax

*also gets rid of urine smell (I know gross, right? Well, it does!)

Regular Washing Machine Load: 1/2 cup + detergent of choice to regular load of laundry

Delicates: 1/4 cup + 1-2 TBSP detergent of choice dissolved into warm water, soak for 20 min., rinse in cold water

Baking Soda

*Some detergents have baking soda already included in the ingredients

1 cup + detergent added to your regular wash load

Soak for 1/2 hour

1/2 Cup White Vinegar to Rinse Cycle

Salt

*not recommended for washing machines

1 Cup + detergent and warm water

Soak overnight.

Here's a Tip for DRY CLEAN ONLY garments:

Take an issue of your latest fashion mag that has perfume inserts

OR a piece of charcoal wrapped in cheesecloth (or, again, placed inside nylon),

Put into Large Gallon Freezer Bag with Garment and Seal.

Leave Overnight.

And finally,

For a FRESH CLOSET (esp. one lovingly stocked with Shoes)
I suggest a strategically placed box of Baking Soda and Cedar Hangers (also keeps moths away);)

Vintage Advantage

Life really is balanced.

Just got word from my husband that my shopping budget is pretty much null until further notice :(

However, my mom graciously allowed me the honor of sorting through her den closet for some really amazing vintage finds :)

I had a couple of slip-ups and purchased 2 items that I'm still in the doghouse for :)...:(:(

My Mom informed me she regrets giving "boxes" of her stuff to charity already :(...karma...:_(

My Mom gave me belts that belonged to the vintage pieces that are now good as gone... :(... ... :)

The stuff I have in my closet needs to be sorted through anyway (will be setting up an ebay account and there will be some fashionable items in the lucky hands of the local charities soon) :)

I've always had luck in finding amazing pieces :) :)

Here is a wonderful piece from Saks Fifth Avenue (Vintage Saks!). I love this muted, amber-rose color and the fabric feels thick but light at the same time like raw cotton.

What I love about vintage is that it is usually really well made.

The carefully crafted details of the precise darting at the shoulders and cuffs cannot compare to today's mass marketed products. Even the purple veined, ball buttons whisper of well thought out design. The stitching is impeccable which I suppose is critical when using a burgundy contrasting thread. Even the paisley pattern is well planned in its simplicity.

As I mentioned, this particular blouse is of a raw cotton nature. It breathes well but needs to be ironed under the lowest setting.

Aside from organizing my closet once again, this weekend will involve activities that hopefully revolve around re-discovering other very special things that I already exist in my life;)
If we open our eyes to the present, we can see what is before us.

Plaid Wool Skirt Revival

I've had a hankering for plaid.

Last week, I found something that I used to wear soooo long ago. I'm not even going to tell you when I wore it or you're gonna scream. Have you ever rediscovered something that you absolutely adored before and now are delighted to find? And even more exciting was that it fit!

It was a perfectly chilly day for wool and almost as easy to put together as a dress. It was one of those non-make-up days where I had to rush somewhere super early and attend to a burdensome load of things, hence no time for bells and whistles. I figured that If I threw my hair up in a quick chignon and wore sunnies, no one would be the wiser. By the time I got to taking pics for you, my chignon was withered by the weather and more of a chig-not, but the progression represents so much of how the day went, so I'll go ahead and post;)
Anyhow, I think the skirt pretty much held the spotlight...

Could Use Some Eye-Catching Color These Days

Sitting here on a Sunday usually entails a great deal of waiting. I've been here for quite some time doing this today and have realized that my living room could use a spice of color here and there to entice the Spring sunshine to stay. Maybe a vivid piece-de-resistance would help ease the monochromatic fog of all the gray weather we've been dealt here lately.

I've found a couple of really great pieces of furniture that has inspired me to put together a few things that might satisfy this craving. If only we could leave the house (ahem...how long does it take to put on shoes?) so I may explore these options in person...

What Did You Wear To Coachella and Earth Day?

This picture seems to depict a peace that is so far from some of the fantastic realities of Coachella and Earth Day that I just had to post.

It's ideal isn't it? The shade in the car seems to provide this fresh faced, non-sweaty model a place of refuge from the sweltering desert sun and hopelessly drunken males (yup, the one who couldn't put on his flip flop as well as the one who is running rampant in his tighty whities). She lounges lazily on the black, leather seats (without losing skin) in a crimson, ruffled bikini bottom (LOVE, but alas, Sold Out) and bohemian long sleeve top pondering what to do next (because that is a HUGE problem).

She looks ahhh-mazing, but bored!! Her outfit is impeccable, yet she completely misleads the inexperienced onlooker or online shopper preparing to purchase proper attire into thinking THEY TOO will have a quiet moment to think at the upcoming event.

Well, now that all is said and done, many of you giggle with me.

As in life, we go and purchase, or revive, our favorite things in hopes that we will also have a model moment to ourselves to soak everything in. This is why we love to look at the beautiful models in the mags. We are able to see captured moments (carefully choreographed) and we very rarely get that in our own lives.

We dress in our meticulously planned outfits and we lovingly prepare our faces only to exit our homes and enter into a world of chaos - experiencing fantastically, fun, yet utterly, unstoppable minutes that fly into the next.

And I can almost guarantee that at the end of the day, we all wish we could have taken a few moments to be present and stop time if not to just hold on to some of those very moments just a little bit longer;)

So I encourage you to remember this picture and challenge yourself to do it this weekend.

Stop.

Smell the Roses.

Stop.

Smile and Look a Little Longer.

Stop.

Listen and Enjoy the Music.

A Breath of Fresh Feet - How to Deal with the Side Effects of Shoe Fetish

Speaking of shoes, I am relieved that there is even an avant garde nod to the idea of wearing socks with our favorite shoes as seen here at the Hermes show. This totally brings me back to my childhood:) I used to rock the socks with my sandals all the time...

After long, hot days in lovely shoes, I find that Sweat is an inevitable adversary. Now that the days are lengthening and the chances of bare (or exposed) feet are increasing, we often run right into Smelly Feet 911 after a long day in the trenches.

Invited last minute by someone special to Happy Hour cocktails?

Girlfriends ready to hit the dance floor in strappy sandals?

After-work meeting with clients at the new Hot Spot in town?

Did your spouse just inform you that you're having dinner with VIPs (Boss, neighbors, friends, kids)?

Don't Soak Your Head Silly, Soak Your Feet;)

Where?
Under your workdesk
In the restroom
In your car
Pretty much anywhere there's privacy
How?
1. Grab some Mouthwash*
2. Fill a medium, shallow pan/tub/container (anything that will fit your feet will do) with enough Mouthwash to cover at least halfway up your foot.
3. Soak for 10 minutes
4. Towel Dry.
5. Go:)
*If you have cuts or open wounds, I'd suggest Epsom salts and warm water til you heal.

This is all I have on hand.

It may be beneficial to use one with antiseptic properties...

Victory.

I worked a Trend Show Weekend in 2007 that had me running so much that by Sunday my feet were too swollen to fit into my shoes. If I only knew then what I know now. Probably could've used it during the last trimester of pregnancy too...

Whimsical Wonderland - My Favorite Red Coat

After Sunday's Earthquake, I feel something has awakened within me. Maybe it's a grounded awareness of how fragile our lives really are. Quite possibly it's a newfound desire to actually take life for all it's worth while the delicate balance still appears to be so.

Suddenly, certain things don't seem as important as they were a week ago. All I really want to do is pull my loved ones close as I take on this journey while wearing my favorite things.

Update on Beauty S.O.S. for Burns

Well, I'm on a roll this morning with reviews so I'll also do a brief update on my research with Moshi's Burn Solution. Let's just say I was cooking *gasp!*...(quiet all you in the peanut gallery...) and let's just say that I went to unplug the rice cooker and burned myself.

I don't think my forearm made contact for more than a second, but yowwza...that hurt! I stuck my arm under the cold running water for many minutes. When I looked at it, the skin wasn't even pink. But it was still painful and gave my skin this sensitivity thing. Where was the mark? How was I supposed to gain any sympathy from anyone if I look unscathed? Hmph.

So, seeing as that it was "minor" I took the initiative to explore the Toothpaste option. I used a whitening gel because that's what was at the sink.

Here's what it did:

-Eased the pain and gave a refreshing, cooling sensation
-Got all over my couch and clothes
-Tightened the skin on my forearm
-Gained me a little sympathy;) (heehee, such a drama queen!)
-8 hrs later, I removed the toothpaste and there was no blister, just a little red mark.
(5 hrs earlier I could see a distinct bump on the burn site)

Anywho, great tip! My arm still feels cool and minty fresh (it even made me cold - see the goosebumps?). Wow. Toothpaste alleviated my pain. I did put a dab o bacitracin and a band-aid so there's no funny business with scarring.

Review of Recent LUSH Haul

UPDATED LUSH REVIEW

Easter went well and we have already had the opportunity to give a few moments to revisit the last haul from LUSH and give you some details:)

LEMONY FLUTTER CUTICLE BUTTER:

You'll find yourself smelling your hands all day. You will re-apply only for kicks. Rich and Amazing. Thickly whipped cream. Absorbs quickly and Does Not leave hands oily. Astonishingly effective for heels.

OCEAN SALT CLEANSER:

Exfoliant. Think sand, salt, ocean - Less as a grainy aqua concoction but More like a gift from the sea. Fresh, like I like My Man... Ahem...where was I? Very effective in getting the dead skin off and revitalizing the top layer. Cooling and Refreshing.

DREAM CREAM:

Light with hints of chamomile, lavender, geranium and tea tree. Easily Absorbed despite the luxurious oils that ravage your skin. Leaves a sheen without the slide. Use a wooden popsicle stick like they do in the store.

CURLY WURLY SHAMPOO:

The thickly concentrated sample of shampoo with the grated coconut had me worried. Turns out, once you put it in your hair, it lathers easily and All Of It washes out even easier. I have thick, wavy hair and I could actually feel the instantaneous taming of the frizz with my hands. Upon looking in the mirror after many, many hours of hair pulling moments, my tresses are smooth and well-behaved (as in non-frizzy and shiny). Smells like Real Coconutty goodness without the industrious aftertaste (still, don't eat it).

I'm going to have to invest in this one. DARN YOU SAMPLES!!

The following is a quick rundown for those of you who haven't tried this brand and have not seen the bazillion reviews on these things in particular (Elle Fowler also does a review on Porridge, Rockstar, Buffy, Bath Bombs and Bubble Bar; I told her I would review different things, so I'll briefly skim over some important caveats even though some are the same product...):

SOAP:
(very enticing. you may find yourself just standing and sniffing...) I think this is such a personal choice, I will just say that you have to check it out for yourself and see. It is so unexpectedly enjoyable. Do it with a loved one. Pick your favorite. That's how I did it at least.

I love the creamy colored ones, they are nice to my dry skin. These are the ones I've tried:

CHOX AWAY - A chocolate mint marries playdoh. But has pretty starflake exfoliators and was VERY moisturizing.

NOUBAR - so overpowering to me the first time I smelled it. loved the color and the concept. When we brought it into our bathroom, it wasn't bad. Very moisturizing. I think it's more of a masuline scent. Maybe that was it. I like to smell my man but I don't want to smell like a man. See the difference? After it was gone, I couldn't wait to get back with it...hmm.

PORRIDGE - Smells sooooooooo good:) It's like smelling a beautiful cake-like oatmeal with shea butter and milky, sweet honey. Yummy. Messy. The glossy, brown oats get everywhere so you might want to watch the drain action - the oat wrapped in hair to available open drain space ratio...or something like that.
Or be good friends with a plumber. You with sensitive skin may find the oats too abrasive still. I love it and I have sensitive skin too.
ROCKSTAR - Yummm Yummmmm Yummmmmm. Creamy Pinksicle Smell (my personal take on it). Moisturizing. Delicious. Devine.

BUFFY:

Not a soap. Body Exfoliant. Seems to melt under water (do not try dry). Very abrasive but gets the job done if you can get through it ok. Lemongrass with Tea scents the shower. The oils are very accommodating and generous to the skin and leaves a nice sheen for the duration of the day. Slippery, be careful, it makes the tub floor slippery too.

Smells like Spa.

BATH BOMBS:

(brief release of sodium bicarbonate but no resulting bath bubbles)

My bathroom (yeah and my house) smells lovely after dropping one of these in the tub. BUT the fizzle does just that after only a few minutes. However, Even though the sizzle didn't last, the soothing soak certainly did. The bathwater did seem softer and quite possibly some of the carbonated bubbles were still present in smaller form much, much less noticeable. Good, but I didn't really get the feeling that I was soaking in seven-up like I thought I would. The water does take on the colorful characteristics of the BB, and is so aromatic that it just may be worth the price.

TIPS:

1. According to someone's YT video that was featured on the LUSH website, using a pair of old nylons would help prevent some of the contents of the BB (flowers, nuts, confetti...) from clogging your drain. Can't say whether or not it helps keep the glitter under control or not.
2. You can drop this in the yellow bag they give you and hit it once with a Tenderizer and it should break into some workable pieces that result in a few baths. BUT you may still be tempted to use the whole thing due to the short duration of the bubble show. Either way, you're fine.

CREAM CANDY BUBBLE BAR:

(awesome. results in foamy bath environment)

Now this is the one you crumble under running water (key) and it too has wonderful aromatic properties (esp. this one - yum.). I do agree that cutting this bar for multiple uses is a wise choice. Not only foams under running water, but Laura, the rep, also pointed out that you can use a container to repour the bathwater into itself to form more foamy bubbles. Between the toy pitcher and the toy teapot, I think the kids had a blast with this particular feature:)

Lalala Love Lush - Dry Hands Get Help

Seduced through a Doorway...

I've been trying to publish a Lush Haul post, but due to technical difficulties, what I've already produced is held up in "Drafts." Oh well, nothing is on accident. So let's try a different approach. First, I'll admit and agree that Lush is nothing short of Luscious.

*deeply inhaling the delicious smells currently permeating my room*

So many of you have done reviews and videos, so today I'm going to focus purely on BRB territory:

DRY SKIN
...or specifically Dry, Cracked Skin on Hands

Why, oh why, are the hands on my skin like a black hole for moisture? After a year of washing to the extent that rivals someone with OCD in order to prevent the spread of well, EVERYTHING, I am left with ashy, cracked, and red hands. I don't want wrinkles on my hands. I don't want my hands to age me. I don't like petroleum products, they suck the life out of my largest organ. After constant abuse from the fickle weather and anti-bacterial invasion, I have been in search of:

Relief.

Moisture.

After being pleasantly surprised by my cousin, C, with Chox Away and Noubar soap, I noticed a significant difference in levels of moisture on my legs long after my usually hot shower. And after seeing all the hype on YT, my curiosity was peaked. So I set a goal to seek out this revered brand. And luckily, lo and behold, I found a store (not so close, but not too far).=)

I think I floated behind my nose, through the glass doorway, and into a vividly colored and soothingly scented mecca. Basically, it's everything I ever wanted in my bathroom, but didn't know it til that moment.

Am I in Heaven?
Everyone was smiling in there. There were gatherings around glass bowls of water into which the reps would drop things that would fizz and bubble. I constantly spotted people dramatically closing their eyes to smell items in a slow and luxurious manner. I thought, 'What's going on here people? What must they be pumping through the vents?'

Then someone, Laura, spotted me and swept me away into an hour long (not that I noticed time) journey into product demo 411 a.k.a. my mini-spa tour.

The first stop was here:

Restore, Revitalize, Replenish

Step 1: Cuticle Cream that soothes the most stubborn skin and permeates the air like Lemongrass Tea

Step 2: Aqua Blue Exfoliator that sloughs dead skin and leaves a cooling herbal ocean scentsation

Step 3: A decadent light yellow, chamomile scented Body Lotion that truly is "as good as it gets,".

SCORE.

And it's organic and environmentally friendly?

SOLD.

Yes, it is a bit pricier than your drugstore brands, but it's worth it. A little seems to go a long way. Besides, if you turn in 5 clean, black pots, you get a free fresh face mask.

As a matter of fact, Laura did demonstrate four masks on my hand from what I refer to as the "salad bar" area. It's made fresh and refrigerated but it does smell more like veggies...

The most moisturizing seemed to be Sacred Truth (green).

Anyhow, I left the store last week with samples (amongst a few of your recommendations like Buffy and Porridge) but couldn't get myself back there fast enough to get the three items for my hands (why do samples make us do that?). Why? Well, my hands looked great well into the week even after much contact with soap and water. And these work on feet so you have something to do between pedis...

I guess it's all well and good, because I also picked up some of the Easter Bath Bombs and the Giant Egg (filled w/goodies) for Baskets;) Well worth the 2nd trip.

Got Burned?

Have you been burned lately? No, no, Physically. Well, here's something I also picked up at the counter the other day - a perfectly appropriate BRB Tip. My friend Moshi uses toothpaste on barely there but unfortunately there burns (we're talking MINOR barely burned skin like a tiny curling iron mishap, you hear? Otherwise call 911 because burns are no joke). This would have helped me last week when I decided to drop the flat iron on my ear and it produced a really cute red mark that looked like a hickey. Thank goodness for hair...

I'm not looking forward to my next bout with this issue, but I'm curious to see how toothpaste actually works:) *Disclaimer: Try it at your own risk.

As a responsible beauty advisor, I must EMPHASIZE that you should Go Here to the MayoClinic.com for the 411 on Burns. PLEASE. It walks you through identifying what level burn you have and deciphers what to do when working with Chemical burns (may help some of you at-home colorists). It also helps you determine whether or not to go to the ER STAT.

To distinguish a minor burn from a serious burn, the first step is to determine the extent of damage to body tissues. The three burn classifications of first-degree burn, second-degree burn and third-degree burn will help you determine emergency care:

First-degree burn

The least serious burns are those in which only the outer layer of skin is burned, but not all the way through. The skin is usually red, with swelling, and pain sometimes is present. Treat a first-degree burn as a minor burn unless it involves substantial portions of the hands, feet, face, groin or buttocks, or a major joint, which requires emergency medical attention.

Second-degree burn

When the first layer of skin has been burned through and the second layer of skin (dermis) also is burned, the injury is called a second-degree burn. Blisters develop and the skin takes on an intensely reddened, splotchy appearance. Second-degree burns produce severe pain and swelling.

If the second-degree burn is no larger than 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) in diameter, treat it as a minor burn. If the burned area is larger or if the burn is on the hands, feet, face, groin or buttocks, or over a major joint, treat it as a major burn and get medical help immediately.

For minor burns, including first-degree burns and second-degree burns limited to an area no larger than 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) in diameter, take the following action:

Cool the burn. Hold the burned area under cool (not cold) running water for 10 or 15 minutes or until the pain subsides. If this is impractical, immerse the burn in cool water or cool it with cold compresses. Cooling the burn reduces swelling by conducting heat away from the skin. Don't put ice on the burn.
Cover the burn with a sterile gauze bandage. Don't use fluffy cotton, or other material that may get lint in the wound. Wrap the gauze loosely to avoid putting pressure on burned skin. Bandaging keeps air off the burn, reduces pain and protects blistered skin.
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. These include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Aleve) or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others). Use caution when giving aspirin to children or teenagers. Though aspirin is approved for use in children older than age 2, children and teenagers recovering from chickenpox or flu-like symptoms should never take aspirin. Talk to your doctor if you have concerns.

Minor burns usually heal without further treatment. They may heal with pigment changes, meaning the healed area may be a different color from the surrounding skin. Watch for signs of infection, such as increased pain, redness, fever, swelling or oozing. If infection develops, seek medical help. Avoid re-injuring or tanning if the burns are less than a year old — doing so may cause more extensive pigmentation changes. Use sunscreen on the area for at least a year.

Caution

Don't use ice. Putting ice directly on a burn can cause a burn victim's body to become too cold and cause further damage to the wound.
Don't apply butter or ointments to the burn. This could cause infection.
Don't break blisters. Broken blisters are more vulnerable to infection.

Third-degree burn

The most serious burns involve all layers of the skin and cause permanent tissue damage. Fat, muscle and even bone may be affected. Areas may be charred black or appear dry and white. Difficulty inhaling and exhaling, carbon monoxide poisoning, or other toxic effects may occur if smoke inhalation accompanies the burn.

For major burns, call 911 or emergency medical help. Until an emergency unit arrives, follow these steps:

Don't remove burned clothing. However, do make sure the victim is no longer in contact with smoldering materials or exposed to smoke or heat.
Don't immerse large severe burns in cold water. Doing so could cause a drop in body temperature (hypothermia) and deterioration of blood pressure and circulation (shock).
Check for signs of circulation (breathing, coughing or movement). If there is no breathing or other sign of circulation, begin CPR.
Elevate the burned body part or parts. Raise above heart level, when possible.
Cover the area of the burn. Use a cool, moist, sterile bandage; clean, moist cloth; or moist towels.

Get a tetanus shot. Burns are susceptible to tetanus. Doctors recommend you get a tetanus shot every 10 years. If your last shot was more than five years ago, your doctor may recommend a tetanus shot booster.

Well, I certainly hope I will be more of a blessing than a curse on this earth. It's hard though. What do you think? Yeah? I suppose on that note, I'm letting you know that the page is open for business but under construction. Please excuse the mess. There's method and madness in it. What was that quote from TB's Alice? Anyway, too bad for us all that procrastination waits in the wings. *sigh* So tempting...

Me? Happy. Today I went to an event for some playtime and guess where I went?

Yay! Gorgeous. Today was a make-up day. Ever do that? Just visit the counters to say, "Hello Lovely,"? There's something to be said about seeking out advice about a specific line from someone who consistently attends training sessions held by their label. They are given information fresh from the runways. I highly recommend revisiting some soon:)
I'd like to thank Moshi and Tracy (hope I spelled it right) for a fun girl morning. You glamour girls are great! M and T were not only knowledgeable about the product, but they also explained specific artistic technique and shared health savvy that far surpassed my expectations. Love finding solid consultants!! Awwwwesommmmee... They even taught me a few tricks. Seriously, you gals are so helpful!! I'll Definitely be back! Ok, you ready?

Quite frankly, some of these pics are a bit close for comfort, but I really wanted you to see how the Poudre Douce (pink miracle powder) really highlights certain parts of the face (mountains vs. valleys) in a flattering way. It seems to soften it Big Time. Love. Love. Love. And really Great for pictures (even though I'm feeling a bit self-conscious with my face all over this post) if you have a date, dance, performance, whathaveyou! And as for the HydraMax Lip Tx, it seems to be working so far...

Ok, I confess, I actually am liking today. I am feeling quite peaceful and content after a lovely weekend of nothing in particular. In my little world, that's a good thing, you know?

So I've decided to spread the lightheartedness. I was just visiting fellow blogger, GLAM LATTE, and was impressed by her ability to transition What's Hot into her wardrobe. (You should definitely check it out if you haven't already:) ) I couldn't put my finger on why reading my Blog Roll while drinking a cup o' joe is my preferred way to start the day. And then it hit me:

Fashion is my favorite way to work out issues...

Creativity Cures my Blues. Beautiful things soothe me. I love to read. Is it the same for you? So I've decided to do an homage to my past week with a few items representing my feelings of angst. Cheating Piece of Rant

Who knows if I'll ever, ever post this one. But I have to name the proverbial Elephant in the Room. I call you out sucka. Don't be all, "Who me?" You know if I'm talkin to you. And if I'm not, then you know who I'm talkin to so just listen.

If we're all supposed to be in this world together, well you are not helping it be better with that attitude. You hear the word "Karma" being thrown around all the time (and maybe you use it), but re-a-lize that karma is not just a single event. Karma is energy and we are all connected fool. So damn, that means we are all affected by you. You are affected by us. Whether we like it or not. Great.

Then I say get off your ass and get with the program here.

Do your part (whatever you want that to represent).

And pooparazzi, leave Sandra alone. America's sweetheart doesn't need your stabs right now. *two fingers straight up* I think you're a talented and beautiful soul Sandra. Of course, I don't know you at all personally, but I feel like I recognize a strong woman when I see one. The roles you have chosen, empower me to be better. Your interviews seem genuine anyway.

As for the other one. Well, I'm going to tell you the truth even if it bothers you. Maybe things went differently than you expected. Maybe before anyone ever knew you, you lived as a lovely and kindhearted mother who was just making an honest buck. Maybe you, like many, had good intentions in life. But maybe someone lied to you about beauty or love.

I hope that you do not let the media lie to you. I hope that you realize that you are too valuable a person to be getting yourself involved with this futile bullshit. You are a couple of someone's mom, you know? Stand up and be counted. Start making better choices for your soul. Make your kids proud. Yeah, it's hard work. We're all aware.

So just like in the past, when friends would try to warn me of certain people, I choose to make my own decisions with how I interpret "things." That's what I'll do now. Let's see...what are the main issues here? Hmmm. Good question. Well, let me address my "Deep Thoughts" (definitely a SNL reference).

1) Why is it that we as "the public" should take sides?

2) Why are we making judgments?

3) WTH. Why has this been an issue poisoning us ALL? I didn't make that decision. I should be free from this hell. I am Supposed to be free. Who am I kidding? I'm trapped in this hell with all of you because we are collectively "One Love. One Heart. Let's Get Together and Feel Alright." Thanks for the reminder Bob.

*and I think that this is the most important OVERALL issue:

So you found out that someone was cheating on someone. Yeah, I've heard that before. That's a bummer. Seriously. My heart feels for you and I will pray that you heal with knowledge from the experiences. Hello? This is your mother speaking. Don't do that again. I love you. Don't you love you? Is it true that we all have been touched by infidelity through at least one degree of separation? I say yes.

Why does the media have to push us to take a side? That's none of my business. Trust me. I've got enough shit going on around here to worry about that stuff. Oh hey! So Do You! Well then? Let's talk about nurturing, polishing, and fixing our little piece of the connection here as opposed to how everyone else is doing things wrong.

We are being fooled into thinking that we should judge...well, everybody else. The truth is that this is actually a blessing so we can be more aware of our own human behavior. WHY? We all have decisions to make. Everything has consequences. So why do I think this in particular is a big deal? Well, heck, if it's out there and the theme is growing obnoxiously repetitive, then it's a big deal because WE ALL MUST BE DEALING W/IT, right? Right now, if it's not happening to you, it's happening to someone you know or someone they know. And if we're all connected, it's cancer within the whole.

I'm sad that the wholesome image and peace of Golf has been tarnished for me. I'm sad that I heard a reporter actually question whether having tattoos all over your body indicated bad character. Such Bull. I used to golf to get away from the stress. Plus, I know some really freaking awesome people with tattoos all over their bodies. You can only sweep things under a rug for so long. The Media spits it in our faces all day.

Thanks. We get it.

Our definition or "pursuit of" this thing called, Love, is under duress.

I have no answers. I just can't help but think that this may indicate that so many more of us are in denial of how we really feel. Are we living numb? Is it because we are bombarded with distractions and expectations of what we're striving to achieve and who we are? Is it just a matter of primal instinct and T&A overload? Then why the freak is everyone getting married? Humanity is a Hot Mess.

We struggle to find love. companionship. good sex. whatever. Maybe it's all about just telling the truth to each other and letting the cards lie where they land. Maybe it's about finding happiness and peace within ourselves before we let others define it for us. Life is learning. Hmmm. These themes sound familiar...

Plastic Surgery: To Cut or Not To Cut

Beauty is from within a place we must uncover. However, all the stuffing and injecting in the world won't help us find a permanently satisfactory form.

I know I have threatened tummy tucks and botox, but it is really tongue in cheek. Sure, the idea of perfection is tempting. Who am I kidding? I'd feel like a complete jerk if I ended up being the 1 out of 100,000 who became paralyzed. Or even worse, what if I died?! Who's to say I won't get "plastic fever" and can't stop until I look...melted?? What dear? No, college is out of the question. Remember Mommy's "refreshments?"! What if my family had to suffer because of my vanity? My guilt from this hypothetical scenario is already over the top. Sure, I like me. But I don't love me more than them. And if I'm to lead by example, well, I guess I know what I must (and mustn't) do.

It's fruitless and ungrateful to strive to fulfill someone else's ideas of perfection. We will never win that game. My tummy is not what it was before kids, but I am learning to be okay with that. There's history in my laugh lines and there's pride in my stretch marks. That fact may even make you cringe. I understand. It's difficult for us to feel good about our bodies. From day one, we are trained to think we need more, as if to say, "No, no. You don't want to be you. You want to be better." But they are lying to us because we are good. We are awesome. Until we realize that, we are at the mercy of someone else's agenda. And that never seems to go well in the long run.

I wish there was a way to click into the right mind frame as soon as we wake-up every morning so we are not led astray. It would be so helpful to have the ability to refill the self-esteem tank when we found ourselves lower than optimal.

Oh yeah, right, there is a way to do that:

-Give it to God. Ask Him for Peace. Prayer is Powerful.

-Gather your family and friends. It takes a village, but sometimes all we need is a hug and a good laugh.

-Eat well. Food is a source of energy. Choose wisely.

-Believe in yourself and Realize you're valuable.

-"Put a Little Lipstick on." -Mom

Trust me, I have to force myself to take my own advice. It's a process. Beauty is fluid and it transforms into something new as we change our thoughts and our hearts. Why do I feel continually sideswiped into falsely thinking that a new pair of boobs, a flat tummy, and an expressionless face will better me? I struggle with these lies. For those of you who have made the choice to do so, I say, more power to you. But before we decide to painfully alter ourselves, we need to consider who we are really doing it for.

Feels like everyone on the blogosphere has been taking a break from their computer - or at least taking them on the road. It's a good thing. You know, I've actually been here - just unable to access a viable computer (you see my phone is ok for reading but not for editing. I'm sure you get it...). Anyway, how's it going in your neck of the woods? I'm sure it's busy. But are you enjoying your life? You should try to.

For the most part, I have been. Of Course, there have been moments. You know. Moments that send you into a series of questioning that makes you spiral into an emotional mess? Well, guess what? If this is you, well then, WE need to spend some more time in the beautiful sunlight and really take a moment to re-evaluate how lucky we truly are. Sure life is a pain. At times, life is pain. BUT IT'S SHORT. Well, then, on that note, we should probably appreciate what we have - even if it is one, small, precious blessing, that gets us from one moment to the next. I had a really, really, reallyreallyreallyreally, bad mood kind of a day yesterday after a full and extensive week. But today was a piece of joy so I'm hanging on to it and moving on...

I know it's a bit early to be posting flowers and blue skies, but, hey, if the runways are already flaunting diaphanous, floaty fashions seen here at Style-Eyes-Fashion-Blog, then I'm almost running late with it, don't you agree? I'll admit, I still have a post in a draft regarding a trip to the snow, but can't help but notice the small signs that are tempting me away from the ominous clouds and biting wind towards a world with comforting sunshine and exposed collarbones.

9:56am and the red light is brightly blinking in urgency. All morning, alerts on my mobile annoyed me with countless emails offering 20%-30% discounts or free gwp of some caliber or another. But this time the blinking felt different - important. And when I picked up my phone, it was confirmed.

Bff text: "omg, i mean. i cant find my tweezers anywhere. my guy-brows are starting to set in!"

I have this "connection" with her that I just cannot explain. When one of us is in need, the other just knows. Does that happen to you ever? I mean, the incidences range from small things such as buying the same item just in a different color to big things like picking up the phone to call as it rings. what? why are you laugh- We rock different styles and the chances of either of us having free time for the phone is practically null! you may smirk, but I think it's ESP;) I know, I know, make fun all you want. It's true though. And yes, having "guybrows" IS an emergency when you are supposed to be groomed as a professional under the careful watch of everyone around you. Be honest everyone. Guybrows = Emergency.

As you can see here, fuller brows are more fashionable these days, but notice, Camilla Belle: oy vey.

So let's move on to the solution.

Have you spent the night at your boyfriend's apartment? pulled an all-nighter at work? tweezers fell in the toilet mid-tweeze because "someone" left the seat up? Just have a few strays that you missed at home but caught while you were out? Fear not.

SECRET: Fold in one arm. Hold the frame of your glasses still (you can hold the middle of the frame if you want). With your writing hand, leverage the arm so that you can pinch the hair, then pluck.

How To Prevent Bruising - Acting Quickly on the Cheap

Fight or Flight Fail

Let's just say it was for a good cause. I mean, I heard blood curdling screams coming from the other room for goodness sake! Primal Instinct took hold. I wasn't even awake yet, but in one clumsy but unified movement, I bolted upright then flew into an automatic run... almost. Here's where it could've gone wrong:

1) Eyes trying to see through stubborn eyelids that refused to raise and reveal the clear path to the doorway.

2) Lack of sleep hence coordination of a jello, stick figure.

3) Adrenaline Rush Fail.

As I hurled forward out of my bed, somehow one foot caught in the sheet or the comforter/duvet what have you and I tripped. An onomotopeia? Crack! BOOM Yelp. Now, imagine falling - hard - knee first onto the sharp, wood corner of the ironically well-cushioned ottoman. Nice. Before this particular incident, it's placement at the foot of the bed seemed harmless - helpful even! Usually, it just sits pretty, doesn't do much... Et Tu Brute?

"I'm okay... uh, maybe not."

What transpired next was a series of expletives synchronized with a wail/whine/cry sound that came from way down deep inside where my soul had abruptly become disrupted from peace.

Maybe it hurt because:

1) the muscle was momentarily separated where the corner had made contact. (I heard a crunch.)

2) Possibly, it was the fact that the corner actually hit bone. (pretend to not think about crunch sound)

3) Was it my Pride that it had cut so deeply?

4) Nope. Just Pure Pain. (Breathing. B/w screams).

Why do I tell you this story? Why do I show you this ugly pic of my knee? I told you I'd help you with embarassing things like the aftermath of your clumsiness;) Don't tell me those fantabulous platforms or 6-inch heels never turned on you at the most inopportune moment. Even in a flat shoe, slipping and falling is not out of the question. Were you at work? on a Date? New York Fashion Week? It's okay. I totally understand. Remember, I'm your girl and I'm going to offer you a hand. Stand up my friend and listen to me.

HAIRSPRAY sprayed directly on the site of the injury (potential and probable Bruise - **caveat: NOT recommended for Broken skin) WILL PREVENT MOST BRUISES FROM EITHER FORMING OR TURNING BLACK AND BLUE.

So you ask why is my knee bruised here? Remember the blood curdling scream that I was attempting to rescue? Well, let's just say, I didn't get to my bruise in time and this pic was taken a day later. When I did finally remember to apply Hairspray and had the stamina to overcome all obstacles and execute the task, it was already swirling into the darker colors of the rainbow. But I must say, it never got worse.

So you ask why you should believe me when I say this works? Because it does. I've tried it over and over on shins, elbows, cheeks, knees, you name it. No, don't worry, I've only been victim to my inner adrenaline junkie. Let's just say I heart certain sports that require a special relationship with jumping which leads to falling...and rolling from time to time (not to be confused with "falling down the stairs," though)...

Anyway, I use THIS ONE:

Make sure it has alcohol and it is aerosol (sorry ozone)

It probably works without aerosol too...

Yes, let it dry on you even if it turns white. You can wipe it off later!

You'll find that a small travel size in the purse will save you time and time again (do your friends' coffee tables come to mind?).

I'm not a Doctor and I'm not telling you to do this instead of go to one if you need. By all means, go.

This is just one of those SECRETS that you happen to hear your personal glamorati urgent care whisper in your ear to get you through the small stuff, k?

My favorite time of night is when everyone goes to bed and I have a chance to completely relax. Wanna join me? Hesitant Going Nude...

Word on the street is that the hottest nail color right now is...taupe. I was unsure about this direction after many months of sliding along the entire spectrum of, well, er...black. There was burgundy/black, purple/black, blue/black, green/black, metallic, glossy, matte, french manicure matte/black on glossy/black (juuuust kidding, that was Kim Kardashian) ...ok, I see how it's backlashing towards the lighter side of the neutrals. But taupe? At first, I was worried that this color could be a little more than unflattering to unmoisturized hands. But then I figured, Why Not? It's a go-to color in the best of closets and mixes easily with the bolder colors you own. It just makes sense. So yesterday, as an excuse to get reacquainted with the elusive sun, I ran into the local drugstore and picked up some of this. And this is how it worked out:

Much to my surprise, I'm really digging it. Maybe it's the fact that it's not too gray. I'd say it's more clay than chalk. It would actually be pretty chill with a dark, marine blue dress. This one in particular is ORLY - Country Club Khaki and it seems to have a tone that picks up any pinks in the skin and compliments it. Think of it as a no-hassle color that rather than screams, it simply states polish (sorry for the pun) - flawless finishing for your fingers.

However, let the novice beware. I would suggest you take the color to the salon if you are hesitant; this is not one that can go on sloppy. And keep the amount of coats to a minimum - like one. For this brand in particular, I found that without careful application and a top coat, you may get streaks. Besides, your salon professional will exfoliate, moisturize and massage you so the blood will be flowing and the skin will be glowing. So splurge if you get the urge to try.

Vampires Beware, I Love Garlic

Ok, now to focus on more beauty matters at hand such as the topic of How To Rid Ourselves of Garlic Breath.

but first, an ode...

I love that, as a whole, the head of garlic can be placed in the oven; with a mere drizzle of olive oil and a slight sprinkle of sea salt, it then slowly will brown and roast into a buttery consistency thereby allowing it to melt unabashedly into your mouth. I love that you can peel a clove right off of the body and hear the crackle of the skin, then coax open it's essence with a swift spank of the side of your knife (think less violence more foreplay). I love the smell that wafts up into the kitchen as the delicate, fruity quality of olive oil mingles with the, once overpowering and bitter, quality of the garlic; the oil somehow has the power to persuade this controversial herb/vegetable to open up and show the more subtle, but seductive, nuances in its flavor. Marinara, Scampi, Skirt Steak, Bread, Hummus, Stuffed Mushrooms, you name it, I'll add it. And if I need to bring a bold dish to a potluck, I'll feel better if bagna cauda is at the party. Because if everyone tries it, no one will smell it on anyone's breath, right?

They say (and whoever "they" are... does it matter?) that one garlic cancels another. For instance, only order a Caesar Salad if your date does too. Well, that seems to work, but what if someone you're with eats stuffed garlic mushrooms and you only want a house salad? SIMPLE. Just make sure you share a dessert. Wait a minute, what? Yup. Pay attention. SECRET: Stainless Steel neutralizes the smell of garlic (and onion for that matter). Regardless of your chosen cuisine, you must at least have a dessert or coffee so that you can obtain a spoon. It must be stainless steel. I know some restaurants only offer actual silverware, but in that case, I suggest keeping a teaspoon handy in your clutch.

Be seductive. No one will notice that you're cleaning your pallette and scraping your tongue if you act like you are really into your double chocolate, caramel mud meltdown. You're going to have to literally rub the garlic oils off of your tongue. Scrape, salivate, suck, swirl people! You do want to get a goodnight smooch don't you? I don't care if you're on a diet, it works for coffee too. For goodness sake, at least get some whip cream on top so you don't look like a crackhead though. Be creative. Be flirty. Be sly. This could be the segue to what happens next.

Of course, the ol' brushing of teeth never hurt anyone (might as well floss while you're at it), and yes, mints/candy/gum help. However, sometimes a moment happens and there is No Time to hit up the restroom for primping so suck it up and spoon! Oh, and make sure to share...

Moody in the Madness or the Back and Forth of It All

This week hasn't been kind. Aside from the torrential winds and buckets of water (which are actually quite comforting in my melancholy), I have been hydroplaning from one obstacle to another. It has to be a test I tell you. What does it all mean? Again I ask in vain.

If I were to share at all with you, it should be through pictures and videos. There are no words that could do any of it justice. But alas, my inability to upload from my mobile is blocked. Why? Am I so delayed that I am unable to upload simple things just like I do with everything else? No, no, blocked as in 'haven't jumped through enough service provider hoops' to link my devices without kinks...major, debilitating, composure-challenging ones.

In Search of the Superficial to Attain Momentary Bliss (Purple Eyeliner pt.3)

Resolution: To Complete Things I Start

I suppose on New Years Day, we all expect that we have a chance to start fresh. Maybe that is why we celebrate like mad on the 31st - drunk with thoughts of reconciliation and possibility - until well beyond the stroke of midnight. I sit and wonder how many celebrations I can actually recall but quickly come to realize, save a handful of fabulous moments in time, I have spent this specific "holiday" not doing much more than watching the ball drop on tv from the comforts of home. I know, bo-ring, right? Meh, sometimes I think NYE ranks up there with St. Patrick's Day - no offense, but somewhere inside, I hear a voice: "Amature Night." I mean, we all celebrate these with glasses in the air, but the probability of the Foolish people sneaking out from under their rocks is high on these evenings. And quite frankly, I like to steer clear. Actually, I welcome the banality of pjs and a remote control with open arms, because by the time the last day of the year has piled up, I am flattened and fried. And in my exhaustion, I shall hole up, at least for the next few days, and do absolutely nothing in particular except catch you up with my latest adventures. I know it may be frivolous, but make-up/beauty/youth is all about pushing creativity. It's my little piece of colorful in this shades-of-vampire-gray world. I would also like to address one of my main resolutions, which is to live this year while consistently answering the question, "What do I want?".

So tonight, I offer you a blog:) It will have no particular direction, but hopefully, as I mentally process this time of the year, it will be somewhat entertaining in the are-you-kidding-me-right-now/well, that's somewhat interesting kind of way. Why? Because after braving counter after counter during the Christmas season, I need to share.

I've been hitting the pavement and investigating products just for the sake of finding the best stuff out there. Without all the brainwashing from the media or influence of free product bribery (I wish! Wouldn't that be a kick?!), I would really like to discover the Creme de la Creme. I try to hold no bias based on price or label. I've been testing things on my face, my hands, my inner arm... I've sniffed perfumes until my head pounded and my nose bled (just kidding, but it felt like it would). I have kept pages of notes comparing and contrasting, but what it really comes down to is You Have to Go Knowing What You're Looking For. Case in point? Purple eyeliner mission completed.

I had a plan. I was to focus on all available purples and test them out on my hand. After one hour and a hand slashed with multiple shades of purple eyeliner, it was clear that I would only find what I wanted based on what my standards were.

Some were great going on but insulted the hell out of my wallet. Some were cheap and not just in price. Some were just plain discontinued. *Sigh* There are just too many options sometimes. I went from counter to counter, store to store, and found that even though there are a bazillion people standing around doing nothing, they do not necessarily want to help me. But I will say that Haley and Myrissa @ Macy's should get a raise because in the sea of stares, they are the two stars willing to help a girl out. Props ladies;) Unfortunately, I still did not find the color I loved. Onward.

Whew! In a word: OVERWHELMING. Time passed. I began to tire of being the human scratch board. Suddenly, in the hazy light of late morning, I was lured into the bright, well-organized M.A.C. store, and checked out the gamut of purples available. It was like an oasis in the desert of proper product presentation. However, I realized that I had 15 minutes, but I was in the right place so np. I found not 1, but 2, exquisite shades of purple that quenched my thirst. My head was spinning, but it was early enough so that I was offered a proper tutorial by a guardian angel of M.A.C. (I would mention the artist's name, but I'm not allowed to tell...). After several attempts to find the perfect match for me, I finally had a plethora of choices AND a guide (Speaking of options, go to the website if you want to find out about the differences in liner types for this particular brand; there's something for everyone).

I just got absolutely hooked on "Bordeauxline," which is a no-nonsense, creamy, sultry, aubergine "powerpoint" crayon. We're talkin sexy smooth - just waxy enough to glide-on and just matte enough to stay put. Yummm. It's the kind that glides on and just begs to be laid on the waterline. Then, there it was. A flicker. A spark. Eureka. I'm shown the most intriguing, electric, violet color that ever graced my prescence. It's name: "Electrolady," of course. Not for the faint-hearted, it's a metallic, purple, liquid liner (just use small, manageable strokes, and rest your outer hand lightly on your face as you line to stay steady). It's sensational. It demands to be taken out about town. This little liquidlast liner is said to withstand almost anything including time. I was instructed to use an oil-based eye make-up remover for this. I'm thinkin' Lancome Bi-facil hands down. Anyway, I couldn't decide, so I took both home. One for day, used with "Shale" and one for Date Night, used with "Indianwood" paint pot. Defined brow and thick black lashes, and Welcome back Hotter. Btw, I left the liquid on overnight (bad, I know, but for testing purposes) and it even stayed through the steamy shower!

Well, that's that for now because it's late and purple eyeliner doesn't go well with dark circles. I'll probably share my Beauty Booty Blog tomorrow and hopefully get savvy with pics;) Night night, don't let the haters bite...

Spinning Brown Skin into Gold

I've gone through my entire day trying to write for the blog but have had serious blogger blockage. Why? After hours of back and forth with my virtual vs. real life, I've been challenged. Beauty Blogs: Shallow and Fake? Well this is a good question and I have come to realize, it's time to get down and dirty. Why do I do this? So we can hopefully join hands and work together within this fickle and confusing industry. Multi-colored women unite!

In the blogosphere, who do I think I am?! There are so many issues that I've had to deal with on my own that, well, I've been ashamed to admit...until now. My skin is brown. Some say caramel, but I like how my husband says it, "perfectly brown like I like my coffee," (There. I said it. I'm brown. He said it. He likes it.). And who was ever there to help? Not too many. I mean, even my own mother would continuously tell me to "stay out of the sun so you don't get dark...". I'm sure she's just parroting her own european aristocratic atrocities. I'm sure her mom was just as lovingly harsh. But let's face it. If you can't love yourself, you can't love. And after years of self-loathing, I've realized that I am only fighting to love myself - my brown skin self. Ridiculous, right?? For one, I'm dark anyway; I'm a Filipino/Guamanian girl for goodness sake!! Two, dontchaknow?! Everyone's down with brown now! Embrace Mama, Embrace!

And we're finally living in a world where the majority of the world wants a heavenly kiss from the sun. Sure, it's nice now, but for years, I've been forced to wear Light Girl makeup. Light peach and pink blush and washed out lip color would accompany my imbalanced "dark golden" pressed powder. Until about 10 years ago, I've had to mix and match, compromise and sacrifice, fake and make it. I've looked muddy, disheveled, pale, painted and two-toned (you know, even in the face and neck but not with the body?). Then along came Halle Berry. Let's face it ladies, until this empowered woman won an award and impelled everyone to watch her have emotional catharsis on television, the world really did not consider the multi-toned, brown skin girl. She cried and the world focused on her waterproof mascara and impeccable complexion. She became the face of Revlon. Before this, there was no focus on shades of brown. There was no giving yellow/olive/brown/black girls much more than a "Tan" consideration in the foundation/powder world. And I know, I am not alone when I say, "It was pretty f'd up."

How many times have Asians, Latinos, and African queens had to stand in the aisle staring @ our options only to realize that not only do we Not fit into the Golden Beige category, but we have been forced to choose the darkest shade even though it made us look like we played in clay. In some lines, we have even had to buy, "DARK" even though it may not have been dark enough at times. Well, now because of women like Halle, like Beyonce, Tyra, Eve and Rhianna, WE HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED.

I suppose there are so many other women who have affected our status, like Oprah, Margaret Cho, Brooke Burke, Lucy Liu and Maya Angelou (hell yes), ETC., ETC., ETC. BUT in the fashion/beauty world, Grace Jones, Iman, Vanessa Williams, and Naomi Campbell have been the few Brown Goddesses that have even put our needs on the beauty agenda. But now, there is a LARGE network of women who pride themselves on brown skin. It is amazing how many colors cosmetic companies have added to their "skin tone" palette. But even before Halle, there was one cosmetic line in particular who was based on accomodating all skin palettes. Perscriptives.

Listen, Perscriptives was focused on finding your perfect match, remember? So here's the skinny my beauties, pale pink to dark blue: Perscriptives is going OUT OF BUSINESS. Say what? Maybe you haven't even gone to their counter except to spritz some CALYX on your wrist, but they were one of the only lines who acknowledged the diversity of skin tone from 1979 til now. It is an Estee Lauder Company and LISTEN UP BEAUTIES, it is going away for good. Wanna know how I know? I've got an insider;)

Yup. While on my search for the perfect purple eyeliner (shallow as it may seem), I ran into the most amazing shopgirl who not only led me to the aubergines and the eggplant, she also gave me the skinny. Her name is Haley. SHE IS AWESOME. She's knowledgeable, helpful, and, of course, a fellow beauty. I suggest you RUN NOT WALK to the Macy's in the Shops At Mission Viejo and find her NOW. She will get you all the great stuff that's left in inventory and probably lead you to the stuff you can't live without... But you'd better hurry, the sell outs are insane (Someday in the future, I hope to add her to the list of important beauty bloggers on our list). So let's say adieu to Perscriptives, a quality line that is soon to not even brag of an online site, and say hello to this BRB network of insider 411. So let's wrap up this beauty bubbliciousness shall we? I will address ALL concerns here on this blog.

Labeling beauty research as shallow filler is a type of self-denial, don't you agree? Beauty should be FUN my Lovely Ladies. I don't care how rich or poor, young or old, bitchy or savvy you are. These times are tough my fellow Beauties. 'Tis the Season to Be Gorgeous (or In Search of Purple - Pt. 1)

Every season, I try to adjust something in my beauty routine so that my style inertia always has momentum. I'm sure if you thought about it, you'd realize you do the same. Beauty doesn't have to be pain but it does create quite the headache when we are in search of something. Change is a pain sometimes, don't you agree? Well, the holidays are upon us: family gatherings, reunions, parties, the list continues. It's that time again to embrace our discomfort and step out of our Autumn Box and into our Winter Sparkle. 'Tis the season to be Gorgeous!!

What has caused me to write to you with such urgency to transform even just a small fraction of your routine?? Well, Thanksgiving is over and done. The Trees and the Lights are popping up all over town. I just saw my reflection in a window. Wait...What? yea, I said it. While I was strolling with my shopping bags (feeling so happy inside) I happened to glance up at my reflection in a mirror under the unforgiving fluorescent lighting of a store that shall remain unnamed. My black eyeliner and nude lips, which work so well on dates, were creating a harsh, unapproachable look. What was I thinking? Where my b****** at to gimmie the DL?? So I started (and I use this word "started" with tongue-in-cheek) to devise a game plan to update my the colors on my face and possibly fit in a haircut by the end of next week. Well let's just say it took about...um, a minute and a half for me to become completely overwhelmed and exhausted by my own thought process. So I decided to just change my eyeliner (which kind of reinforces my current beauty obsession):) Simple.

Recently, I have become obsessed with the idea of buying purple eyeliner. I guess I said, 'buying,' but what I really mean is that I am "actively in search of" the Perfect Dark Purple eyeliner - consistency, longevity, wearability. I want it ALL ( hey, if you're going to dream, DREAM BIG, right?). I'm talking velvety eggplant that verges on black but teases you to look deeper and discover something more. Don't get me wrong, I love black eyeliner, but it doesn't go over so well as an everyday look (I mean did you read my last paragraph?). I believe you too are savvy and understand that God is in the details!

Dark Purple Eyeliner is alluring to even the most hardened of makeup boycotters. Daytime looks are possible here because there is a softer element - blendability. And you best believe that it'll draw in those who are already looking deeply into your eyes *sigh*...ahem, I digress...

As I was saying, I'm looking for the pariah of eyeliners...in dark purple. Is that so much to ask? I want the creamy texture to slide on effortlessly like a pastel on canvas, but not slide off easily at all like a marker on paper (Oily eyelid owners BEWARE! If it melts on too thick and too creamy, we may end up looking a bit...well, battered if you get my drift). I want the creamy that doesn't run and the dry that doesn't pull. Waterproof may do the trick but many of them tug on my delicate eye skin. You may laugh, but it's only because you relate!! In terms of the color, I don't want it to bring out any darkness under my eyes. I definitely don't want my smokey midnight intentions to look like a hazy walk of shame!! Delicate not Dirty...well, not too dirty;) So here I sit, a girl with a goal.

Tonight I shall do a dry run of research on the Web. Time is money girls, and saving it is Fabulous because it means we'll have more of it for other things later;) Tomorrow, I shall travel to Sephora, M.A.C., and all the other Fancy Department Stores to test out the many shades until I find THE ONE. Great thing about the two aforementioned, they have artists to help. Stay tuned dear readers. Let the shopping commence!

It All Began With A Frosty Blue Eyeliner and A Beauty Mag

When I was 11, my Mom handed me a magazine and I was mesmerized by the model on the cover. How did she look so...perfect? Surely, even if it were airbrushing, smoke and mirrors, I somehow could create that same look with some magic of my own. The models in the ads were as glossy as the pages. The women had matte, clear skin and red, patent lips. Then, I read an article on "shading" to create "perfect" angles on the face; what a farce! But by the same token, this could certainly be a look obtained with some effort, right? But, as you already know, things are rarely as easy as they look. So the challenge took hold of me and my childhood was spent dabbling in make-up colors, skincare techniques, and scientific experimentation.

Maybe it was the challenge of the chase that hooked me. Maybe it was the struggle towards perfection from a place of complete imperfection. It's true that we tend to want the things we can't have, but it's also absolute that I love a challenge. I have a memory of seeing a picture of a rockstar wearing green/black eyeshadow with hints of glitter. I confess, I ditched a Human Sexuality class to find that color. It was only After 4 hours of hard labored investigation that came to understand I was chasing a white rabbit; the makeup artist probably created that color combination, duh. I felt a hard slap of naivitee on my forehead. There was obviously so much more to learn. So I guess it's no surprise that despite my tomboy "ish" phase, I finally held out a hand towards the darkness trying to grasp some type of inner Diva within my flannel shirt and cutoff jeans (Kurt Cobain RIP). So where to start?

It's more fun to play with makeup than to hate it right? I have a theory that if we own the proper tools, makeup application is not as intimidating. I know like me, some of you may have to warm up to the idea of buying (and using!-not just leaving it in the drawer, tsk tsk...) brushes as opposed to the disposable foam or a Qtip. Trust me, it's worth every penny you spend. Think of painting a masterpiece on a canvas with one of those foam thingys or your finger (forbid)! Just don't do it. It's your face for goodness sake. And by ALL means, make sure it has soft, quality bristles unless you want them scratching and sprinkled all over your face. And please wash them frequently. I repeat: TRUST ME on this one. I have worked for one of the leading cosmetic companies in the industry in one of the top department stores. I have heard some stories that would send you flying towards you antibacterial gels and slathering for dear life. We'll talk about this more, I'm sure. Which brings me back to my purpose in this arena...

MY WHY

Ok so why a beauty blog, you ask? Well, why not? I seem to be asked time and time again for solutions to last minute issues - specifically, skincare issues like acne, oily skin, wrinkles, you name it. Like I said in my bio, I love me my products and am probably a good resource for a review at least. Besides, I am just as curious as you are to find what works and what does not. Consider it a jouney. As for my expertise, well, if someone is deemed an expert after 10 years, then I am confident, you're in good hands.
